A three day course examining various methods of drawing from observation while staying creative and inspired.

This short course is suitable for complete beginners or those who want to improve their drawing from basic principles.

Times: 11AM until 4.30PM Tuesday Wednesday Thursday- August 13th, 14th and 15th 2019

Over the three days we will be going over the basics of drawing from observation- starting with simple still life drawing and then working on the figure; a full day on portraiture and self-portraiture, and then an intensive day of drawing different types of poses, including one long pose on the final afternoon.

The classes will include talks, demonstrations and slide shows, as well as lots of practical exercises and one-to-one tuition.

The Market Studios is the animation campus of Pulse College on Halston Street, Dublin 7. They are right beside the Four Courts Luas stop and the old fruit market. Each day will include a short lunch break - there's a nice break room to eat lunch in the studios or there are lots of cafes on nearby Capel Street.

Day One
Basics of drawing from observation with still life drawing and then life drawing from a model with some work on anatomy and looking at the skeleton and muscles.

Day Two
Head Drawing Portraiture and Self- Portraiture. AN explanation of profiles - three quarter, full face etc, and an exploration of head proportions and how to draw realistic likenesses, incluing some time spent on a creative self portrait.

Day Three
Lots of life drawing starting with short poses -and then a chance to work from a model in a single pose for a long period.

MATERIALS:
Materials and paper are provided - the emphasis will be on drawing with dry, erase-able media. Feel free to bring your own drawing kit, notebooks or paper.

Who is this course for?
Anyone who wants to start drawing or improve their drawing.
While the classes concentrate on technical aspects of working from observation, they are also focused on sparking creativity and individual responses to drawing from life.
This course is also ideal for someone who wants to build up a portfolio with a view to applying for college.

It's also a good way to build up confidence and memory, and learn to appreciate drawing as an art form and research tool. It's lots of fun as well.

What are the required materials?

Basic drawing materials and paper are provided - the emphasis will be on drawing with dry, erase-able media. Feel free to bring your own drawing kit or paper if you prefer. It will be a good idea to bring a notebook and something to write with.

Are there ID, mobility or age requirements to enter the classes?
This event includes drawing from a nude model. The minimum age guideline is Transition Year and above.
The classes take place on the first floor of the building and unfortunately there is no lift.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the course?
Luas to Four Courts and then a three minute walk- Buses to O'Connell Street then a quick walk down Henry Street, Mary Street, and Mary's Lane (ten minutes); parking in one of the many city centre car parks or on-street (paid) parking outside.
